“From as early as I remember I wanted to be a nature artist - to share nature with the world while conserving its beauty. Conservation became an important part of my values and beliefs and is a large part of the man I am today," Derek Wicks reflects. Derek attended Sheridan College of Applied Arts and Technology in Oakville, Ontario and graduated at the top of his class from the Technical & Scientific Illustration Program, with an award for Artistic Excellence. After graduation, his career led him to free-lance illustration where he specialized in architectural rendering. Attention to detail became Derek’s commercial trademark, a trademark that would find its way into his wildlife art. Gaining international recognition, Derek’s transition as a wildlife artist came about in 1995. Through the years, Derek’s work has been selected to endorse several conservation efforts such as the Canadian Conservation Fund, Timber Wolf Alliance and the Children’s Wish Foundation. Derek’s work has been published in art publication, “Wildlife Art: 60 Contemporary Masters and Their Work” and he was named Ducks Unlimited Artist of the Year in 2007.
