Chad Poppleton

Chad Poppleton a resident of Cache Valley Utah, has been interested in art ever since he can remember.  His interest began while on the farm and ranch with his grandfather working with the animals understanding attitudes and behaviors.  Chad’s father, also and artist, taught him how to draw and look at things through an artists eye.

Hunting, fishing and exploring in the mountains has molded his relationship with nature.  Observing wildlife and being in their environment captivates him.  “Interpreting the behavior and character of each animal in its natural environment is the motivation for my work.  Studying, sketching, life painting, and observing the animal’s behavior helps me to identify their characteristics and relay that into the canvas.”

He studied at Utah State University under the direction of Glen Edwards and graduated with a Bachelor’s in Fine Art/ Illustration.  Chad continues to further his education by continually taking workshops and “critique’s” from many accomplished artists.

These fine art galleries, Legacy Gallery Jackson Hole Wyoming and Scottsdale Arizona, Collectors Covey Dallas Texas, Sage Creek Gallery Sante Fe New Mexico and Samarah Fine Art Whitefish Montana, represent him.  He was featured in the 21 under 31 in Southwest Art Magazine in 2002.  Chad has been featured in Art of the West magazine and Western Art Collector magazine He has also been in the top 100 for Arts for the Parks in ’01-04’ He received Honorable Mention for the Wyoming Conservation Stamp 2003.  He has participated in the prestigious Collector’s Covey miniature show, Charlie Russell auction and exhibited in the Charlie Russell museum, Center for the Arts benefit Jackson Hole, and a sponsor-participant with the “Fall Arts Festival” Jackson Hole. Chad supports many local art clubs in his region.

“As an artist my objective is to represent the subjects of wildlife correctly and accurately to the best of my ability.  Each animal is different and should engage the viewer emotionally within the piece.  The viewer should understand the character of the animal.”  As an avid sportsman and conservationist he spends as much time in the field as he does at the easel.  His paintings are a reflection of his love for the animals and the outdoors.
