Kids For Conservation

The goal of SEWE’s Kids For Conservation program is to promote wildlife and environmental conservation awareness in young people.

Sponsored by SCANA, the KFC poster competition is open to all Tri-County students in grades 1–8, and the birdhouse competition is open to those in the grades 9–12. All enteries will be on display in Marion Square during the Expo.

The winner of the 2006 contest is David Peek, age 9, a 4th-grader taught by Mrs. Hart at Hanahan Elementary School. David’s panda portrait is shown above. David will receive a $500 savings bond, and his school will receive $500 for art supplies.

2nd place was awarded to Sarah Russell, in Ms. Hewitt’s class at Whitesides Elementary, and 3rd place went to Allegra Morant taught by Ms. Bennett at Howe Hall Elementary. Both schools will receive money for art supplies.

Emma Katherine Grech, 7, of Mt. Pleasant received an honorable mention and the Junior Achievement Award was awarded to Rod Snell, a 14-year old 8th grader taught by Barbara Richardson at Sangaree Middle School.
