Initial Plans Announced For SEWE '08

SOUTHEASTERN WILDLIFE EXPOSITION 2009

Now in its 27th year, the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition (SEWE) is the largest wildlife art and nature event in the nation, attracting more than 35,000 attendees annually. Approximately 120 artists and 350 exhibitors from across the country and around the world will participate in SEWE ’09, scheduled for February 13-15, 2009.

In addition to world-class original art housed in Charleston Place and the Mills House, SEWE ’09 will offer diverse exhibits and events in venues throughout downtown Charleston, including conservation exhibits, birds of prey and retriever demonstrations, and children’s activities in Marion Square. Charleston Marriott will feature antique decoys from some of the nation’s finest brokers, as well as high end sporting arms. Prints and reproductions will also be housed here, along with nature photography and an exhibit and sale of Audubon reproductions.

To the delight of people of all ages, the Busch Wildlife Sanctuary will host educational live animal presentations at the Gaillard Auditorium, and the “Living With Wolves” team will share their experiences from six years researching these fascinating creatures in the wilderness of Idaho. A wide array of wildlife collectibles from handmade knives to unconventional art will also be at the Gaillard. The Sporting Village, which will feature outdoor outfitters, safari and hunting guides and the like, will be in Brittlebank Park, along with the Dock Dogs® “Big Air” Competitions.

Established in 1982, the first Southeastern Wildlife Exposition took place in February of 1983, with approximately 100 exhibitors and 5,000 people in attendance. Its goal was, and is, to produce an event which promotes the conservation and preservation of nature and wildlife through its focus on the visual arts and educational outreach programs.

Tickets are $15/day (Friday or Saturday), $10/Sunday, or $35/3-day pass, and children 10 and under are free. SEWE provides free shuttle service between venues during the Expo weekend with a ticket or badge. VIP packages offer extra perks and after-hours activities, including an artist reception, black-tie gala/auction, the SEWE Soiree with a Lowcountry feast and live music, and access to hospitality suites throughout the weekend. These packages, which have sold out in the last few years, start at just $300/couple.
