About Tim
Wildlife and the outdoors have always been Tim’s love and creating these images on canvas is his passion. An award winning sculpture by age twenty, Donovan did not pursue painting until his thirties when he enrolled in the University of Texas at San Antonio and completed a degree in art. Later, he apprenticed with artist Matt Zoll, a traditional realist who taught him how to grind his own pigments and make his own mediums and oils. Donovan’s training is in oil paints but his tight style has led him to work primarily in egg tempera; he occasionally combines the two, rendering a unique luminosity to his works. In addition to painting, Donavan has illustrated “Beyond Little Red Riding Hood” for the Timber Wolf Alliance and worked with Jack Hanna on preservation efforts of both the polar bear and the mountain gorilla.
