SEWE Announces 2022 Featured Artist & Painting

THE 2022 FEATURED PAINTING

Golden Light, Julia Rogers,36″ x 45″, Oil on Linen

SEWE is proud to name artist Julia Rogers as its 2022 Featured Artist. Julia began her career as a wildlife painter at the young age of 17. She has traveled far and wide to feed her passion for the outdoors and its natural beauty which is reflected in her portfolio of work. Painting en plain air, figurative work, landscape and portraiture are all part of her discipline. Julia’s approach to painting is to depict a vision of the feeling she hopes to portray through color, light and composition. She has been rewarded for her efforts by being exhibited in numerous prestigious venues. Julia resides and has a studio on the eastern shore of Maryland with her artist husband, Matthew Hillier, son Patrick and two dogs.

“To be chosen as the Featured artist is an honor that I hope to live up to,” says Rogers. “There have been so many great artists before me. Being recognized in the art world means that the work you are creating is being seen and having a positive reaction which is one of the goals of any artist.”

Golden Light depicts a trio of swans basking in the warm sunlight with one stretching its angelic wings. Swans are a symbol of purity of spirit, strength and rebirth. “I wanted to express a feeling of weightlessness, light and air,” shared Rogers. “What I had in mind for the composition was to show a repeated pattern in the curvature of the necks while stretching and preening, highlighted by the warm sun streaming through the space.”

“Julia extends SEWE’s tradition of outstanding Featured Artists and we are fortunate to have her with us in 2022,” says John Powell, SEWE Executive Director. “Julia’s body of work will be eagerly anticipated by collectors and SEWE attendees which should make for an exciting time in the Fine Art Gallery for preview and the opening hours on Friday.”

Golden Light, by Julia Rogers, will be available for purchase at the live auction on Thursday, February 17th, at the SEWE Signature Gala & Sale. This event requires a VIP ticket.

The heightened sense of excitement and optimism I feel at the start of each painting is what drives me into the studio. My goal is to express an emotion or mood with paint and hope to take the viewer along, one painting at a time. The natural world has always been a major focus in my work. I would like to think it helps in revealing the beauty and fragility of nature”
