About Jason Tako

Considered to be one of the premier western, wildlife and Native American painters, Jason Lee Tako was born and raised in rural Minnesota. There he honed his drawing and observation skills by sketching and painting directly from nature. Several years later, Jason began exhibiting in some of the nation’s top wildlife art shows and plein air events where he won many awards for his landscapes and wildlife works and was featured in numerous publications. In 2020 he was named the Featured Artist at the Southeastern Wildlife Expo, the world’s premier wildlife art show.

Jason's paintings are not based merely on photographs, but also on field studies he does on location. Plein air painting allows him not only to capture the colors and nuances that a camera misses, it also allows him to experience the scents, sounds, heat, coolness, breeze and mystery of the places that the American Indians held so dear and lived and died for. All of this experience goes into his studio work which communicates a realism and feeling that goes beyond the mere copying of an image.
