About Jim Bortz

A lifelong outdoorsman, painter Jim Bortz relates his unique experiences in the field through brush and oil paint. Adventures in fly fishing, elk hunting, and backcountry camping all lend an unmistakable authenticity to Jim's work. With a bold impressionistic style built on a foundation of solid drawing skills, Bortz's work strikes a balance of honest believability and a fearless contemporary palette. Making his home in Cody, Wyoming near the east entrance of Yellowstone National Park, he has access to all the subjects he loves to observe and paint. Traversing the wild places of the Rocky Mountain West provides endless opportunities for exploration and inspiration.

Jim's work has appeared in the Buffalo Bill Art Show, Montana Masters and Birds In Art. The Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum has several pieces in their permanent collection. Bortz's work has also been featured in Sporting Classics and Fine Art Connoisseur magazines.
