CONSERVATION MESSAGE WINNERS

OVERALL WINNER

Eva Higdon – age 14, Charleston School of the Arts, N. Charleston, SC

Without birds, wetland ecosystems will have no way of staying alive since birds disperse seeds, help pollinate plants and provide insect/rodent control. If the bird’s home is destroyed, nature will fall out of balance.

Group 1 (Grades K-3)

Sammy Pulsifer, age 8, Huston Fine Art Studio, Mount Pleasant, SC

I learned that it is very important to clean up trash because animals could get real hurt.

Group 2 (Grades 4-6)

Katherine Crean, age 11, Charleston School of the Arts, N. Charleston, SC

Conservation is really important to me because animals are the victims of our destruction and wildlife is beautiful and animals don’t deserve to die.  I don’t want a world with no nature.

Group 3 (Grades 7-9)

Susan Dong, age 14, Charleston School of the Arts, N. Charleston, SC

Wetlands cover 6% of the Earth and are important because of the ecosystems they provide.  Wildlife is all interconnected, there can be no missing pieces.

Group 4 (Grades 10-12)

Sophia Linn, age 16, Cane Bay High School, Summerville, SC

The nature has given us what we need, now it’s our obligation to restore, contribute, and conserve the beauty of it.
